Mljet National Park

In Mljet National Park we walked to the Great & Small Lakes and took a boat to the island of St Mary. We had a beautiful swim in the lake. The lakes are sea water with amazing buoyancy.

Omis & Pucisca

We cruised to Omis, an ancient town with city walls, fortresses and stone churches. We were swimming early in the day as it was 33 degrees. After Omis, we had a stop where we swam off the back of the boat before cruising to Pucisca, on Brac Island. A quarry here which was reopened in 1455 had been unused since Roman times. It was from this quarry that stone was excavated to build limestone columns in the White House, Washington DC.

Bol & Split

From  Hvar we cruised to Bol,  which supposedly has the best beach in Croatia named Ziatni Rat ( Golden Cape). It was lovely with crystal, clear water but again stony. We really do have beautiful beaches in NZ.  Next we cruised to Split. The historic centre is a World a Heritage site. We did a guided walk through the historical Diocletian Palace & were then free to do our own thing. Another swim was enjoyed and watching Croatia beat Spain in the football, at a bar in the old town was an experience.

Hvar

After leaving Korcula we cruised to the island of Hvar.  On the way we anchored off a small island and enjoyed swimming off the back of the boat. The water was amazingly clear. In Hvar we walked around the coast to a beach and swam again. In the evening we were taken on a guided walk around the city which has a population of 4000. Next we walked up to the fortress above town which gave us great views. The lace you see in the photo is made by nuns in a monastery from  fibres from the agave plant.

Croatian Cruise

On our first day we cruised from Dubrovnik to Korcula on the island of the same name. The town is known as the birthplace of Marco Polo. We did a guided walking tour and were then free to wander the cobbled streets for the rest of the afternoon and evening.
